Williams to represent Russellville's East Ward

RUSSELLVILLE - Sharon Williams was elected Russellville East Ward alderwoman in Tuesday's municipal election. Election results show 40 residents cast ballots for the seat.

The seat opened as former alderwoman Tina Amick completed her term.

Williams, who is a legislative assistant for the Missouri House of Representatives, said she is interested in seeing community growth in the area and really cares about Russellville.

"I'm pleased with the way the election went," Williams said. "I'm looking forward to the next two years working for this proud city."

Williams received 22 votes, or 55 percent of the vote. Serving previously, she said she didn't do any campaigning, but answered direct questions from residents.

"It's all new players on the council now," Williams said.

Candidates Russell Wilson and Ben Homeyer were not available for comment Tuesday night. Wilson received seven votes (17.5 percent), and Homeyer received 11 votes (27.5 percent).

City officials said aldermen are paid $25 per meeting.
