The California Area Chamber of Commerce discussed Christmas lighting plans at Proctor Park, among other topics, at its August meeting.

A large portion of the meeting revolved around beginning to plan what is being tentatively called "Christmas at Proctor Park." The Chamber intends to use space at Proctor Park, as approved by the City Council last week, for Christmas lighting displays by area businesses during the holiday season. In particular, each business will be given its own space to fill with lighting displays that fit certain sizing specifications, should they choose to participate. Community members could then drive through the park to see the lighting displays.

Chamber members discussed a variety of ideas for the event - from lighting the drive path to asking area churches to sponsor a live nativity. Members on the event's committee plan to continue brainstorming in the coming months.

The Chamber also discussed the upcoming Ozark Ham and Turkey Festival, taking place Sept. 21. The Chamber is working on distributing brochures to area businesses to help advertise the fair schedule.

In other news, Executive Secretary Sandra Ratcliff reported Elevate Fitness Studio has requested a ribbon cutting the same day as its upcoming open house on Aug. 24.
