MRED discusses celebrating local educators

The Moniteau County Regional Economic Development Council discussed potentially celebrating area educators, among other topics, at its August business meeting.

Specifically, MRED President Mike Kelley mentioned a desire to show appreciation for teachers throughout Moniteau County, similar to an event he described that took place nearby in Callaway County. MRED members discussed some of the teacher appreciation efforts already taking place through various county entities and perhaps combining forces. Kelley said he plans to talk to area Chambers of Commerce about any potential coordination.

In addition to discussion surrounding educators, MRED also discussed coordinating some sort of event in conjunction with Manufacturing Day, which takes place annually during the first Friday of October, to promote local business. One idea discussed was approaching local manufacturing plants for community tours.

MRED also discussed the upcoming Moniteau County Co-Working Space, which Kelley said is still in the planning stages. MRED plans to act as manager of the space, and Kelley said the council is planning to apply for a USDA Rural Business Development Grant to help with the costs associated with that role.

MRED meets the second Wednesday of each month. The next meeting will take place Sept. 11.
