Three Jefferson City residents have been charged with possessing a stolen vehicle from California and stealing thousands of dollars of fiber optic cable.

Travis Ledford Jr., 22, is charged with stealing, first-degree tampering and second-degree tampering.

Devin Schrimpf, 16, and Jewel Boyd, 17, are each charged with stealing and first-degree tampering.

A witness saw the three taking the wire, valued at $2,400, from the rear of a vehicle Sunday, according to Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statements. Court documents do not specify where the vehicle was when this occurred.

Another witness said they saw Ledford spray painting the stolen vehicle. The probable cause statement does not say when the vehicle was reportedly stolen.

The cable and vehicle were found at Schrimpf's residence in the 5200 block of Bagnall Drive.

Boyd was found to be in possession of a key to the vehicle.
