Cody Hentges spent the better part of July 2 getting ready to head back to California from Kansas City. He told his place of work his favorite musician would be walking through his own hometown that afternoon, and Hentges wasn't going to miss it.

A few days before, Hentges heard American pop artist Mike Posner was just about halfway through his Walk Across America, which began April 15 in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Posner's plan was to walk to Venice Beach.

"My sister actually got to see him this morning," Hentges said. "I'm a huge fan of his music, and I seriously want to meet him."

Hentges' sister, Amanda, said her chance meeting happened right in front of California High School that very morning.

"He walked up to us and just shook my hand," Amanda said. "He asked me what my name was and where I was from. I said, 'I'm Amanda and I'm from here.' He asked some other girls that were there the same things."

While Amanda is not the super-fan Cody is, the meet-and-greet was still special to her.

"He seemed really happy to meet us," Amanda said. "He was happy and a friendly down-to-earth guy. He was just so nice and smiling the whole time."

According to his official Instagram page, Posner was not walking for charity nor world peace.

A series of life-changing tragedies involving the death of his father to brain cancer and the loss of close friends to suicide and accidental overdoses reminded Posner that life is entirely too short.

"He basically just said that if you have the chance to do something huge and insane like walking across the country, you should do it," Cody said. "He lost his dad and a few friends in such a short amount of time, so this is really just him saying if you have the chance to do something, you should."
