New graduation date announced at Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, Mo. - The Jamestown Board of Education has changed the 2020 graduation date to Sunday, May 17.

"Traditionally, we've had it on a Friday, but we moved it to Sunday," Superintendent Gretchen Guitard said. "That Friday (in May) has traditionally been the state track meet, and it is that year."

Guitard said the team competes often at state track. While the date of the track meet hasn't interfered with past graduations, the possibility is there.

In other action at the March 14 meeting, the board:

Learned the district plans to update and get more security cameras in place this year. Currently, the district is awaiting a final bid for the project.

Was presented the 2019-20 preliminary budget. The district has not received the final update from the school. Guitard said the budget should be similar to the 2018-19.

Was told parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for March 21 with an early release for students at 12:35 p.m.

The next board meeting will be 6 p.m. April 11 in the cafeteria.
