Hunter education skills session set

Good camouflage, a few calls and an accurate shotgun are all you need to tackle turkey hunting.
Good camouflage, a few calls and an accurate shotgun are all you need to tackle turkey hunting.

A hunter education skills session will be held from 5-9 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Clarksburg C-2 School.

In order to attend the skills session, students must sign up online and have completed the knowledge (classroom) requirement.

The classroom requirement can be completed in one of two ways - online study completion or completing the review section in the study guide.

For more information about Missouri Hunter Education or to sign up for the online course, go to mdc.mo.gov or http://www.hunter-ed.com/missouri/.

The study guide may be ordered online at the website above or picked up from any MDC office.

Students 11 years and older may participate in the skills session. After signing up online, bring proof of age to the course in the form of birth certificate or photo ID. Likewise, students must bring proof of completing the knowledge requirement, either a completed study guide or an online session certificate.

Hunters who were born on or after Jan. 1, 1967, or are 16 or older must successfully complete an approved hunter-education course to qualify to buy firearms hunting permits.

Some hunters who otherwise would not need hunter education must be certified if they want to mentor novice hunters.

Additionally, the Missouri Department of Conservation now offers an all-online hunter-education course for Missouri residents 16 years or older to provide a more flexible and convenient option to become hunter-education certified.

The all-online course includes videos and animation to teach hunter safety, firearm safety, ethics, regulations and wildlife management.

To learn more about MDC's hunter education program, go to mdc.mo.gov and click on the Hunting and Trapping tab.

Anyone is free to call conservation agent Nathaniel Hodges directly with questions or to report a wildlife violation at 573-864-9814.
