Voters with current addresses to receive voter ID cards soon

Roberta Elliott, Moniteau County Clerk and Election Authority, announced voters who have kept their addresses current with the County Clerk's Office will be receiving a voter identification card soon.

Missouri election laws require the County Clerk's office to have the voter registration records of all precincts canvassed every two years and the canvass be completed no later than ninety days prior to the date of a primary or general election for federal office.

The postal service is required to correct any addresses found to be incorrect and return to the County Clerk's Office. The County Clerk's office will follow up with the reported address changes received from the postal service. Address changes of voter's still within the county will be sent a postage paid transfer voter registration form. Voters receiving this information need to verify the address the postal service has given the County Clerk is correct.

If the voter does not respond to mailings sent by the County Clerk's Office requesting address information to be updated, the voter's status will become inactive. The voter will then be removed from the voter registration rolls after the passing of two General Elections. To avoid being removed, the voter will need to update their address during this time frame.

Upon receiving the voter identification card, the voter should check the information and make sure that everything is correct. If after receiving an identification card, the voter moves within the county, only the registered voter can report the address change on the back of the identification card and mail to the County Clerk's Office. The County Clerk's Office will update the registration information and mail the voter a new identification card containing the new address and precinct information.

If you believe you are a registered voter and have kept your information updated with the County Clerk/Election Authority and do not receive a voter identification card, contact the County Clerk's office at 573-796-4661.
