Keeping the Target in Sight: CHS Trapshooting Team Ranked First in District

The California FFA Trapshooting team sent sixteen members to Warrensburg, Saturday Nov. 6 for district competition. Sixty-one area teams competed all day and into the evening. California is ranked number one in the district, and all three teams also made the Top 20.

The individual scores are as follows: Ben Hindman-38, Christopher Allee- 33, Matt Hendrickson- 37, Ethan Jones- 34, Adam Weis-38, Zach Reynolds-34, Kurtis Ashley- 41, Luke Burger-38, Adam Jenkins-28, Ian Brauner-28, Tyler Silvey-40, Austin Langkop-39, Carson Shackleford-33, Chris Longan-31, Jessica Flippin- 36 and Phillip Longan with the high score of a 42.

Senior Adam Jenkins notes, "Our season is going really well; we've had great weather every time we go to shoot. We all are improving, and we have a great coach."

The trapshooting team practices twice a month and participates in competitions throughout the year. The trap shooters buy their own shells, but Coach Lee Longan schedules practices and competitions. He also helps keep them confident and focused.

Flippin says, "I thought it would be something different; it is not like other sports. When I first got involved, I was just watching, then the guys encouraged me to try it, and I liked it."
