Christmas Events Including Parade and Home Tours Begin This Weekend in California

Christmas related activities in California begin this week. Judging of the home decorations will take place Dec. 1-3, with prizes to be awarded.

The annual lighted Christmas parade sponsored by the California Area Chamber of Commerce begins at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4. The theme is "Christmas California (Mo.) Style." There will no categories of parade entries for the judging. First second and third places will be selected for award.

Lineup for the parade is at 4 p.m. on Stella Street near the swimming pool. The parade will proceed east on Stella Street, turn right (south) on Owen Street, left (east) on Patrick Street, then left (north) on Oak Street. The parade will continue on Oak Street, then turn right (east) on East South Street, then left (north) on High Street ending at the Courthouse Square. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be on hand at the Courthouse to meet the children.

The Christmas tree on the Courthouse lawn will be lighted and carolers from First Baptist Church will perform on the Courthouse steps. Girl Scouts will have hot chocolate available.

The Historic Home Tours will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, and Sunday, Dec. 5, from 1-4 p.m. Tickets for adults 13 years or older are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Children ages 12 years old and under are $5.

The tour includes three homes and the historic Finke Theatre. Homes on the tour include the home of Bob and Pam Buda, 109 North Oak Street; the home of James and Amanda Canter, 706 East Smith Street; and the home of Steve and Mary Ann Wasser, 302 East North Street. The beautifully restored Finke Theatre is located at 315 North High Street.

Advance tickets are available at all California banks, the California Democrat, the Beauty Bar, the Chamber Office at City Hall (office hours 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays) and the tour locations the day of the tours.

Also on Saturday, Dec. 4, starting at 7 p.m., the Martin Family Christmas Show will be held at the Finke Theatre.
