CMS volleyball teams win final matches of season at Versailles

The California Middle School volleyball teams played their final matches of the season at Versailles Oct. 18, where both the seventh grade and eighth grade girls captured a match win.

California's seventh grade won 25-17 and 25-19.

Madilyn Safley led serving with 24 followed by Madelyn Battles and Ashtyn Goans with eight each. Sophie Brant and Goans led bumping with 13 each. Safley led sets with 14, followed by Rozalyn Martensen with five.

Adrienne Strickfaden led spikes with four, followed by Battles, Goans and Madison Taggart with three each. Brant contributed two digs.

"It was a fabulous way to end the season," California Coach Tiffany Brown said. "Each girl played competitively and they all really showcased how far they have come as a team since tryouts in August."

The seventh grade Lady Pintos end the season 10-2.

California's eighth grade defeated the Lady Tigers 25-21 and 25-13. Morgan Henley, Kamryn Koetting, Kelsey Roush and Abby Strickfaden each contributed four service points in the first game. Paige Halsey had nine bumps, and Koetting and Roush each had seven. Henley had 11 sets and Strickfaden contributed six. Koetting and Roush each had four spikes.

Roush led California in the second game with with eight points while Halsey had four. Haley Goans, Henley, Koetting and Roush each had four bumps, while Henley also had seven sets and Strickfaden had four spikes.

"I was pleased how the season went," California Coach Jennifer Porter said. "I look forward to watching the girls play at a higher level next year."

The eighth grade Lady Pintos end the season 7-6.
