Kindergarten registration approaching for California

This year, California R-1 School District will be having kindergarten registration on April 26, from 3-7 p.m. in the Elementary School cafeteria. This is for district children who are five years of age before Aug. 1, 2011. By state law there is no early entry. No screenings will be held this year. Parents are asked to come on April 26 to fill out the enrollment packet in order to enroll their child for kindergarten for the 2011-2012 school year.

The school asks for proof of the child's age. The school requires a copy of the child's immunization record and proof of residency. If you have any legal documents that the school needs to be aware of, please bring those also. Bring the documents with you to the registration and school personnel will copy them.

Current law requires that entering kindergarten students must have a comprehensive vision exam completed by an eye doctor. Parents will need to contact an eye doctor to arrange and exam. The school will need a copy of the results of that exam.

Parents will have the opportunity to purchase supply kits for kindergarten. The kits include all the supplies needed for school in one box which will be delivered to school and on the student's desk on Back to School Night, Aug. 16.

Summer school information will be available for parents. All students entering kindergarten in August 2011 are eligible for summer school. The session runs from June 1 through June 30. School times are 7:30 - 11:30 a.m. Lunch will not be served. Transportation will need to be provided by the parent.
