Over 160 barbecued pork steaks and 40 barbecued half chickens were sold in just three hours at the Farris Fighters Relay for Life Barbecue held Saturday, April 16, at Shirk's Country Store, Centertown. Two weeks prior 100 slabs of pork ribs were pre-sold making the event a successful fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life. Farris Fighters was formed in 1994 after Captain Mary Anderson's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Anderson's father was diagnosed with colon cancer in December 2001.

The next fundraiser will be a four-man scramble golf tournament May 13, at Railwood Golf Club, Holts Summit. Cost is $280 per team. To reserve a team spot or become a hole sponsor, contact Anderson at 573-338-2971 or Don Farris (Co-Captain) at 573-782-4582.
