Prior to the regular monthly meeting of the City of California Board of Aldermen on Monday, Aug. 1, a public hearing was held concerning the setting of tax levy rates for 2011.
The assessed valuation for the City of California was presented as Real Estate - $35,523,236 (an increase of $1,296,769) and Personal $10,289,698 (a decrease of $2,273,362). The total assessed valuation was presented as $45,812,934 (a decrease of $976,593).
There were no comments made by the public.
In regular session the council approved tax levy rates per each $100 of assessed valuation for 2011. Approved for General Revenue was 39.82 cents (an increase of 1.72 cents, almost two cents). Approved for Parks and Recreation was 15.72 cents (an increase of .68 cents, less than one cent).
Other business in regular session included approval of several bids.
The council approved a bid of $169,336 for a new digger or auger truck for the electric department. There was $170,000 budgeted for the truck but since it takes 210 days to build the truck, only the money for the chassis is likely to be spent in this budget period. The maker is Altech and the truck was ordered from state contracts.
