Mid-Mo Ambulance Board reviews jump in health insurance cost

August 16th, 2011 in News

After having "an enormous amount of claims" on health insurance in the last year, the Mid-Mo Ambulance Board of Directors reviewed and discussed the bids for coverage this year.

At its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the Tipton District office, Ronnie Staggs of Wallstreet Insurance presented the board with bids for health insurance from several different companies. According to Staggs, the large number of claims for the year caused all "bids to be max rated." The fact that the district is an emergency service apparently increases the health insurance rates.

The bid from the present insurance carrier showed an increase of 44.72 percent for the same plan, compared to a usual annual increase of 17 to 19 percent for the last few years. Facing a monthly premium increase from $10,291.75 a month to $14,895.03, the board reviewed and discussed the plans and options at length.
