Sam Lucas, director of music at Clinton United Methodist Church, visited Grace United Methodist, Jamestown, and played during morning worship and a winter program on the Hinners Organ Sunday, Dec. 4.
In 1901, John L. Hinners, president of Hinners and Albertsen Organ Company, came and played at Grace United Methodist after installing the organ. Now, 110 years later Lucas came and gave a worthy program including Advent, Christmas and holiday music.
Hymns played by Lucas included "Once in Royal David's City," "Good Christian Friends, Rejoice," "There's a Song in the Air," "Go, Tell it on the Mountain," "O, Come all Ye Faithful," "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," "Little Drummer Boy," "In the Bleak Midwinter," "Silent Night, Holy Night," and "I Love to Tell the Story."
Other musical items played by Lucas included French carol "Pat-a-Pan," a version of "In Dulci Jubilo" (the music behind "Good Christian Friends, Rejoice") arranged by Denis Bédard, and musical numbers from the movie "Home Alone" including "Somewhere in my Memory" and "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas."
