Number of Early Graduates Increases

Number of Early Graduates Increases

December 14th, 2011 by Aaron Jones, CHS Reporter in News

This year the number of applicants to graduate after first semester is significantly higher than past years. In recent years, the number of students wanting to graduate in December seemed rather low, especially compared to the whopping 14 this year.

The only pre-requisite of early graduation is earning the proper core and elective credits.

One downfall of early graduation is that once a student graduates in December, they forfeit any opportunity for local scholarships. Before completing the application, the student sits down with a counselor and is made aware of everything that they are forfeiting.

Along with the application, the student must write a letter to the school board explaining their reasoning for graduating and their future plans. Among the graduating seniors is Paige Hibdon. Ive enjoyed going to high school in California, but Im excited to experience new things.

The students choosing to graduate in December still have the opportunity to walk with their class in May and attend Project Graduation.
