California High School Math Team to host contest on Saturday

The California High School Math Team recently attended the last two math contests of their season. On Saturday, Jan. 15, they competed at the Camdenton Math Relays. California dominated the 11th grade Trigonometry test with Addison Jobe placing first, Nathan Thibon earning third, Walter Juarez in fourth and Blake Bestgen placing fifth. The freshman members, Alex Davis, Abby Lueckenotte and John Wolken, each placed in the ninth grade Geometry test and the ninth grade Computations test. Other members earning individual medals included Alex Davis, Don Figgins, and Echo High. In addition, the team earned fifteen individual event ribbons. Alex Davis earned honors as the third place Top Freshman. In class test competition, the freshman placed third, sophomores placed sixth, juniors placed third, seniors placed sixth and the Hodge Podge team placed third. Overall, California placed fourth in Division II at the most challenging competition this year.

The CHS Math Team placed third at the Smith-Cotton Math Contest on Saturday, Jan. 29. Five members earned individual medals, including Jacob Ash, Don Figgins, Addison Jobe, Nathan Thibon and John Wolken. The team also took home eight individual event ribbons. Addison Jobe earned fifth place junior, and Don Figgins was honored as first place top senior. In class competition, the freshman placed fourth, sophomores placed first, juniors placed first and seniors placed fifth. Twenty-one schools attended the contest with California contending among eight teams in Division II.

The California math team will be hosting their own math contest on February 19th.
