Moniteau County residents are invited to kick-off the 2011 American Cancer Society Moniteau County Relay For Life at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the Frist Baptist Church fellowshiphall, California. The community celebration is open to anyone who wants to learn more about Relay For Life, including how to get involved.
Past team captains and team members, volunteers, current cancer patients, survivors and caregivers are encouraged to attend the kick-off, as well as those interested in forming a team.
Relay For Life is a community event that honors and celebrates cancer survivors and current cancer patients and caregivers. The event also pays tribute to those who have lost their battle with cancer.
"Those on our Event Committee are really looking forward to seeing our past team captains and are excited to help form new teams," Event Chairperson Rae Ann Shackleford said. "We have worked hard to make the kick-off a fun and exciting celebration to help get our community in the relay spirit. Come enjoy the festivities and great food donated by local businesses. We are also challenging Tipton and Jamestown to form a total of 10 teams this year, and we are hopeful this challenge will be met."

The ACS combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. Lives are saved by: helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; by helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by encouraging communities worldwide to join the fight.
