Parent group planning Safe after Prom Party

Recently, several junior class parents met to discuss organizing an after prom party that would offer students an alternative to teen parties that may include alcohol.

The event is scheduled for April 9 at the California United Church of Christ from the conclusion of the dance until approximately 4 a.m. with breakfast served at 3:30 a.m.

Admission will be free. Students who attend must be on the official school sign up sheet for prom, and doors will close one hour after the start time.

Activities the group is hoping to provide include volleyball, a pitch tournament, ping pong, footbag, karaoke and laser tag. Wii and Xbox video games will also be available. Parents and students are encouraged to suggest additional activities.

Snacks and festive, non-alcoholic drinks and possibly a coffee bar will be provided throughout the evening. Since admission will be free, the group will be asking for as many donations as possible of these items.

The group will continue planning on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 9 a.m. in the California United Church of Christ meeting room.
