Completing the FAFSA, Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is an important task for high school seniors nationwide.

To help local students with that task, CHS hosted a FAFSA Frenzy on Sunday, Feb. 13. Many seniors and their parents attended, making it a great success for CHS.

According to Jessica Schaefer, CHS counselor, "It is important to fill out the FAFSA because it plays an essential role in supporting post secondary education by providing money for college to eligible students and families."

After submitting an application with Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE), CHS was chosen as one of 55 sites in the state and the only site in Moniteau County.

"I thought the FAFSA Frenzy was a great experience, and it really helped me and my mom when we were filling the form out," said Dawn Chapman, CHS senior.

Over 70 students and their parents attended the local FAFSA Frenzy, which the counselors considered a strong turnout. "We were not sure how many people were going to come because it was a beautiful day," said Schaefer.

MDHE will give away four $1,000 scholarships statewide by randomly drawing names from the families who attended at all locations. In addition, CHS gave away two $50 visa gift cards also by a random drawing. The CHS winners were Margret Mace and Andrea Knipp.

Counselors Cara Duenow and Schaefer also stress students and families who were unable to attend the FAFSA Frenzy should feel free to contact them for assistance in completing the form.
