Moniteau County Collector Carlene Petree shows the Dec. 31 mail which arrived at the Collector's Office. To beat the deadline and avoid penalties, property tax payments mailed had to be postmarked by Dec. 31, 2010. Each item must be processed, dated, entered into the computer system, filed, checks deposited and receipts sent. The staff, which is still working on the Dec. 28 and 29 mail, expects to complete the processing task by next week. Petree commented that with so much work ahead of her, she doesn't know why she is smiling. Perhaps because she is due to retire in March.
