California High School Drama Club Plans Variety of Activities

January 26th, 2011 by TyleRe Goans, CHS Reporter in News

One of the busiest organizations at CHS is the Drama Club, which has participated in a wide variety of activities. Whether traveling to the Renaissance Festival in Kansas City or playing improvisational games in the lunch line, they are always doing something. One of the many activities the Drama Club has been involved in this year is Trick or Treat on Pinto Street.

"I thought it was a lot of fun to participate in making the hay maze this year," said senior Conrad Butts.

Besides Trick or Treat on Pinto Street, the group also managed the concession stands during the California Basketball Tournament in order to raise money for the spring play they put on annually. The play this year is "Deadly Earnest," which will take place on May 16 and 17.

"I work the concession stand every year, and sponsor Brown always keeps it entertaining," said senior Mitchell Cox.

At the Thursday morning meetings, members come up with ideas to surprise and entertain their classmates. For example, one day during the two lunch periods, a whistle was blown and everyone in Drama Club immediately struck a pose and froze for one minute.

The Club has many more tricks up its sleeve, including a mysterious happening at 7:30 a.m. this Friday.

"I am really excited for the activity on Friday morning. I know that a lot of students will be participating," said junior Hannah Cain.

Not only do the students love Ms. Brown, the Drama Club sponsor, she also loves her students.

"The students are definitely my favorite reason for being the advisor of the Drama Club. They are fun, active and generous students who are willing to help with anything. They also know how to have a good time," said Brown.

Besides the spring play, the club has several more activities planned before the school year ends. These include a trip to MU where they will watch a play and attend Drama workshops and an end of the year party for all of those who were actively involved throughout the school year.
