The Moniteau County proposed five-year Hazard Mitigation Plan update will be presented at a public meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, at Centennial Hall, Moniteau County Fairgrounds.
The plan, required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), addresses mitigation of natural and other disasters including tornadoes, windstorms, hailstorms, floods, sinkholes and severe winter weather. Susan Galeota of the Mid Missouri Regional Planning Commission (MMRPC) will lead the presentation.
When completed, the information will be submitted to SEMA (State Emergency Management Agency) and FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) for approval then must be formally adopted.
The Hazard Mitigation Plan is different from an emergency response plan in that the Mitigation Plan is about how to avoid problems, or in the case of a natural disaster, how to take steps to minimize problems from the disaster. including tornadoes, earthquakes and floods.
