Richard Schroeder Receives 60 Year Pin for Scouting

Richard Schroeder became a Boy Scout in Troop 5, Jefferson City, at the age of 12 in 1943. He received his Eagle Scout with Bronze Palm in 1948. He served four years as a counselor on summer camp staff and was the Lake of the Ozarks Council representative at the National Order of the Arrow Conference. In 1962, he served as an assistant scoutmaster in Boliver and California before becoming Scoutmaster of Troop 120 in 1969. He as awarded the following scouter service awards; Scouter's Key, Scouter's Training Award, Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor, District Award of Merit and in 1974 received the highest award presented on a council level, the Silver Beaver Award. Schroeder was on the camp planning committee for the new Hohn Scout Reservation. In 1973 he organized Explorer Post 120 and became the Advisor. In this role he led the Co-ed Explorer Scouts on two Philmont Expeditions, canoed 50 miles on the Current River and 75 miles on the Buffalo River in Arkansas. He led the Post on a Boundary Waters High Adventure in Canada, backpacked the Selway-Bitteroot Wilderness in Montana-Idaho and backpacked eight days to the summit of Mt. Elbert in Colorado. He presently serves on the Troop 120 Committee and continues to attend and participate at weekly meetings.
