Even though the Moniteau County Republican Club Lincoln Day event was held more than a month after the traditional time in mid-February (Lincoln's birthday), snow was still a factor. Attendance was about 80 for the event which featured newly elected Fourth District United States Representative Vicky Hartzler. It was held at the California United Church of Christ.

Musical entertainment was provided by Seth Logston, Jefferson City. His first song was "Summer Winds," selected because he thought everyone was ready for warmer weather.

Republican Club President Caleb Jones, also a newly elected State Representative, welcomed those present and introduced Master of Ceremonies Judge Peggy Richardson.

Hartzler spoke of issues before the U.S. House of Representatives and what the governmental body is doing.

Present and former elected officials were introduced and representatives of several officials spoke. Also recognized were retired state employees, current members of the military and veterans.

One of the highlights of the annual Lincoln Day event is the drawing to be custodian for the year of the traveling door prize - the George and Barbara Bush slippers. This year the pleased winner and custodian for the year is Charlotte Buerkey, Tipton.

The Republican of the Year Award went to Judy Wittenberger. The award was presented in recognition of the many hours of work she has done on behalf of the local organization. She serves as vice president of the Moniteau County Republican Club.

A special award was presented to a recent retiree, former County Treasurer Harold Haldiman, for "many years of outstanding dedication and service to the Moniteau County Republican Club.

For fundraising, a live auction was conducted by auctioneer Ben Dugan.

The main dishes of the catered dinner were baked chicken and roast pork loin with plum sauce.

Officers for 2011-12 are: Caleb Jones, president; Judy Wittenberger, vice president; Vernon Koechner, secretary; and Cher Caudel, treasurer.
