Ministers, residents, county workers, members of the VFW Memorial Post 4345, active duty and reserve military were present at the Moniteau County Courthouse Thursday, May 5, for the 60th Annual Observance of the National Day of Prayer.

Pastor Frank Hensley, New Life Christian Church, helped organize the event along with other members of the California Ministerial Alliance.

"Several pastors gathered together to plan the event," Hensley said. "Help from the California Democrat, KRLL and people getting the word out helped us do this. The National Day of Prayer was started 60 years ago by President Harry S. Truman, but there were over 100 proclamations of prayer before then. Now with the National Day of Prayer being held the first Thursday in May since President Ronald Reagan, it is up to us to make the best of this opportunity and freedom to gather and pray. Here is our own government petitioning us to do it."
