California Seniors Preparing to Graduate

Graduation is an exciting time for seniors. However, it is also quite stressful. A lot goes in to making sure everything is right. Sending graduation invitations is one specific job that many seniors deal with.

Tabatha Hoback says, "I sent fifty graduation invitations." Taking the time to find all the addresses and seal everything correctly takes a lot of extra time.

Shelby Allee says, "For me it was quick and easy. I had all of my relative's addresses online, but making sure I didn't forget anyone was stressful."

Some seniors are also helping their parents plan a graduation party for their friends and family. For example, Kelci Dampf says, "Since I invited around 100 people to my graduation, getting everything together can be pretty hectic." Setting up a place for the guests to socialize, preparing food, and sending all the invitations takes time.

On top of all this, a select few still must write and deliver a speech for graduation. At this time, the valedictorian and salutatorian are unknown. However, those in the running have already begun to prepare and practice their speeches.

Overall, graduation is a time that all high school seniors enjoy. Although the work that goes into mailing the invitations, preparing for their graduation party, and writing a speech are all time consuming, it is still a time to remember.

Even though getting ready for graduation is stressful for the seniors, it is also quite a job for the faculty and staff as well. For example, Kathy Blakely, one of the school's secretaries, is in charge of preparing and printing the graduation programs.

Senior class sponsors have responsibilities like having faculty members select junior class ushers, ordering the flowers and distributing caps and gowns.

Graduation is Sunday, May 22 at 2 p.m. in the California High School gymnasium.
