Thursday, May 12, marked the 25th anniversary of John Overbey moving to California and becoming the local Shelter Insurance agent. Overbey moved to the area in 1986 from Blue Springs after accepting the position. He said everything was new coming in but he was very well received by the community after taking over the existing agency.
"Many of my clients were here when I took over for my predecessor and they are still with me today as are a lot of new customers," Overbey said. "It has been great working for Shelter Insurance. All jobs are trying at times, but it has been fantastic. Twenty-five years is quite a milestone, just a little under half of my life has been here in California. It has gone by very quickly. They say time flies when you are having fun so I must be enjoying it as it does not seem possible that it has been 25 years."
