The Jefferson City Police Department is investigating two burglaries reported Saturday.
A 29-year-old Chicago man is in the Cole County Jail pending possible charges. Police are seeking two counts of first degree burglary and one count of first-degree tampering against him for allegedly stealing a vehicle.
The suspect, whose name was not immediately being released, was arrested without incident after a four-hour search in Gasconade County. No one was hurt.
Events began around 2:45 a.m. Saturday when a Jefferson City resident in the 300 block of Carl Lane called 911 to report waking up to hear the home's garage door opening and closing. Then the resident witnessed the car from the garage being stolen.
Shortly before 4 a.m., Gasconade County deputies located the stolen vehicle on U.S. 50 west of Rosebud. The driver of the car ran off into the woods and deputies lost the man in a foot chase.
In addition to the Gasconade County Sheriff's Department, Gerald police, Franklin County deputies, Missouri Highway Patrol troopers, a highway patrol dog, and a helicopter from Franklin County assisted in the search. Just after 8:30 a.m., the suspect was arrested about a mile away from the stolen vehicle hiding in the woods.
Also on Saturday, another Jefferson City resident in the 300 block of Carl Lane reported a burglary after 6 a.m. During the investigation, officers went door to door contacting more than 20 residents to check their well being. No other victims were found.
