California High School students place for awards

The recent accomplishments of several California High School students received recognition at the regular monthly school board meeting, Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Three CHS students received awards in the annual Co-Mo Electric media presentation competition.

Tyler Silvey won an all expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., to attend the annual Rural electric Youth Tour. Samantha Gerhart and Ryan Combs will each attend the Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership Experience (Cycle) in Jefferson City. About 60 high school seniors attend the three-day event in July and learn about electric cooperatives, Missouri government and leaderships skills.

In another media-related competition, Nathan Thibon took first place and Audrey Imhoff second in the annual essay contest held by Wyman Basinger VFW Post 35.

Tiffany Brown, drama teacher, announced that the drama students won $2,400 for the drama program. The students put together a five-minute video for a contest held by Fox 22 News, called the Glee Project after a television series. The students demonstrated a need. The money will be used for standards and storage.
