This year is Future Business Leaders of America's (FBLA) sixth Pinto Can Stampede, which takes place every year before Thanksgiving.
The cans collected by the FBLA members are given to the Methodist Church food bank. The FBLA members collected cans throughout their neighborhood all on one night.
Many of the FBLA members had other responsibilities during the night that they collected the cans, but they still had enough members to collect cans. Unfortunately with the economy affecting many homes, FBLA was not able to collect as many cans as they have collected past years.
This year FBLA gathered about 400 cans. The cans were delivered at the end of last week. The members made two groups and one group collected from the north and the other group went to the south side of town.
The same week FBLA also organized a Dime War between the high school classes. Whichever class collected the most would win a doughnut breakfast. The Dime War consists of a jar for each class to collect money in. Dimes are positive and any other change is negative. The negative change can be put in other jars to make the other classes have less money.
The Dime War is used to raise money for the March of Dimes Premature Baby Research. FBLA will do another March of Dimes War in March.
The FBLA members do public service events to help meet needs within one community, State and teach students to give something back to the community.
