Tempers flare at city council meeting

A contentious note was introduced early on into the regular April 2 meeting of the City of California Board of Aldermen and it really didn't improve a great deal through the evening.

The tone was set with the first item of new business. As soon as a request to use the area around the Lions Club shelterhouse at Proctor Park for a fundraiser motorcycle show on May 19 for Grace Living Center was made, Alderman Charlie Roll made a motion to approve.

Alderwoman Carol Rackers quickly asked the center director, Donna Ward, who appeared before the council, who the group was and how long they have been in operation.

The center, which has been in operation for about three years at Clarksburg, provides a rehabilitation center for homeless young women recovering from addictive behavior.
