The second California Progress, Inc. (CPI) "Wine, Dine and Win" fundraising event took place on Saturday, April 14, at Braykley Hall near Centertown.
With social time starting at 6 p.m., the attendees inspected the silent auction offerings, checked out the selections at the beverage table, purchased 50/50 tickets, gathered at the dining tables and mingled while waiting for the prime rib dinner to be ready.
The dinner catered by Burl Lutz also included salad, baked potato, vegetables, tea and a dessert of cobbler topped with vanilla ice cream.
Jeff Shackleford served as master of ceremonies as members of the CPI board assisted in various capacities. During the "Big Bucks" style event, the names were read off and the numbers entered in pre-blocked spaces on a board. Some of the spaces already contained dollar amounts. As the board was filled with drawn ticket numbers, each number which landed on a dollar amount space won that amount, which could be $50, $100, $250 or two "big bucks" winners of $500 and $1,500.
A ticket was drawn for a 50/50 winner who received half the money received for tickets with the remainder going to the fundraiser.
Silent auction items ranged from wine baskets to a lawn trimmer.
