Seventh grade Pintos pocket wins against Falcons and Wildcats

The California Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team wrapped up last week with a 3-0 record after defeating Blair Oaks 32-32, followed by a 48-19 win against Warsaw.

The week started with California hosting Blair Oaks Nov. 27.

The Pintos led 4-1 with help from Jacob Wolken who hit one of two free throws, then rebounded his own missed free throw to score two more points. Peyton Peters hit a layup at the first quarter buzzer to put California ahead 8-2.

California led 17-11 at the half and 23-21 after three quarters. The Pintos started the final frame with a 7-0 run that ended with a full-court pass from Toby Dalbey to Nyson Moore, who scored a bucket on the play to give California a 30-21 edge. Peters scored California's final points by hitting two free throws and California came away with the win, 32-23.

Peters led California with nine points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Wolken followed with eight points, five rebounds, three steals, two assists and a blocked shot. Liam Glenn scored seven points and had three steals. Jacob Adams led rebounds with 12.rebounds. Dalbey had three steals, three assists and two rebounds.

Following the win at home, the Pintos traveled to Warsaw Thursday, where they captured a 48-19 win from the Wildcats.

"We used a balanced, up-tempo attack to take an early 10-8 lead against Warsaw," California Coach Scott Loring said.

The Pintos led 18-13 at the half.

"The boys came out blazing in the third period, as Adams began the quarter with seven consecutive points," Loring said.

The Pintos went on a 23-2 run and shot 11 of 13 from the field to end the third quarter with a 41-15 lead.

California held the lead in the final frame, that included three consecutive layups by Dalbey to secure the win, 48-19.

"The Pintos shot an outstanding 49 percent from the field, while forcing 29 turnovers and limiting the Wildcats to 27 percent shooting," Loring said.  

Adams led California with 15 points and five rebounds. Dalbey followed with eight points, five rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block. Moore also scored eight points. Cory Friedmeyer chipped in with six points and four steals. Peters and Jon Pardoe each had four assists.  

The CMS Pintos will host St. Peter and Paul at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11.
