While the first snow swirled outside causing lights to flicker and shutters to bang, students and faculty at Russellville High School held a Celebration of Success.
The quarterly tradition begun last year when Principal Heath Waters introduced the idea allows teachers to recognize students for anything.
The idea is to create "good, positive things" as rewards for students fulfilling their duties, such as attendance and classwork.
"It's been neat to see what they come up with," Waters said.
Several students received candy awards for top grades, enthusiasm, persistence, and significant improvement. But other awards were student- specific for being optimistic, daring to try something new, being helpful, holding doors open or having a joke ready.
English teacher Kate Lootens added a little culture to the lighthearted assembly, having her creative writing class read aloud its "Insert Epic Title Here" project.
She also gave each of the 15 students a Wizards of Writing certificate and a wand as a thank you for "inspiring me personally," she said.
