Remember! August utility bills are for June

The Utility bills received on Aug. 1 by residents of the City of California may seem a little low, considering all of the air conditioning and water use during the 100 plus degree heat in July. That is because the bills are for June's utility usage.

This means the high bills many are expecting from July air conditioning to fight off the heat wave and water use because of the drought, will begin to arrive around Labor Day.

"The meters are read on the first day of the month and residents are billed on the last day of the month," said City Clerk Brian Scrivner.
