Post offices will close for holiday; local office to observe summer hours

The California Post Office will close Wednesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. There will be no mail delivery, retail sales or caller services.

Customers who wish to purchase stamps, mail packages or ship urgent letters or packages on July 4 may use the Automated Postal Center (APC). The ATM-like kiosk accepts credit or debit cards only and can handle about 80 percent of typical postal transactions - like weigh packages and dispense postage for Express, Priority, First-Class and Parcel Post mail.

APCs are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week at: Jefferson City, 1750 Jefferson St. 65109; and at Columbia, 511 E. Walnut 65201;

All post offices will resume regularly scheduled retail lobby hours and mail delivery Thursday, July 5.

Special summer hours for the California Post Office will begin Saturday, July 7.

The new hours will be from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8-10 a.m. on Saturdays.

Regular hours will resume Tuesday, Sept. 4.
