Students Take the Role of the Director

Tiffany Browns Theater Arts classes have been working on a performance project for the past two weeks. Brown split the classes into two groups and gave them scripts to perform. The groups then decided who would be which character and who the director would be. The project has taken a total of three weeks to complete. The groups have to memorize their lines, cues, and blocking, which is the movement done while talking.

The main purpose of this project is to reinforce the ideas of blocking and character relationships. The director has to take charge and tell the cast what to do, and what to change. The other members of the cast can only give suggestions. Brown said, I hope the students develop a greater understanding of the analysis, rehearsal, and performance aspects of putting on a production while demonstrating ever increasingly ingenuity as they design sets costumes and lighting and much more.

The students are supposed to learn how to work within the group dynamic. The classes have been rehearsing every day in class to prepare to perform on stage in the Performing Arts Center at the high school in front of their classmates. Brown has worked one on one with each group as well to help them better their performance.

The groups will perform their scenes Wednesday, March 7 and Thursday, March 8.
