New service to be given trial by Mid-Mo Ambuance

March 20th, 2012 in News

A proposed plan for Critical Care Transport (CCT) presented by Jason Elliott received a thumbs up from the Mid-Mo Ambulance Board of Directors at its regular monthly meeting Wednesday, March 14.

This is a service separate from the regular ambulance service. It is hoped the proposed CCT service can be in operation by May 15. After a trial period of about 90 days, an evaluation will be done to determine whether or not to continue the service.

The CCT service is not for routine transport. It is for transport of Intensive Care Unit type of critical care patients. Currently, helicopter is the only transport method. The idea is not to compete with helicopter transport. If the helicopter is grounded or if the medical personnel consider air transport to be less desirable for the patient (such as cardiac patients needing the extra oxygen) and the medical need is not time-sensitive, the ground ambulance will be available.
