CHS to students compete at UCM

CHS art students will compete in UCMs High School Art Contest Thursday, April 5. The students will leave during the school day to compete in Warrensburg.

This contest gives students in Art two, three, and in the Senior Portfolio class the chance to show off their artistic abilities.

The competitors are placed into different categories, which include Painting Still Life, City Life, Potrait, and Drawing Still Life. They are given about two hours to finish their pieces; after that they take a break during which the judges give each piece a rating.

Ratings range from I to III, and not all pieces actually earn a rank. Despite being judged, the contest is an enjoyable opportunity for the students and also for the sponsor, Brad Friedrich.

I look forward to taking students to art contest each year, Friedrich said. It is an opportunity for them to compete and also a chance to look at other student artwork from different schools.

Whether or not they take home a rating for their works, students who compete at art contest are always able to take home a new experience as well as some new inspiration.
