The annual California High School Volleyball Banquet was held Nov. 12 at the high school commons, where athletes, coaches, family and friends gathered to reflect on the 2012 season.
Following a dessert buffet, CHS Head Coach Dennis Davis opened the awards portion of the banquet by thanking those who contributed to the season, including parents of the volleyball players, line judges, statistician Teresa Lueckenotte, score keepers Kathy Blakely and Maggie Lawson, CHS administrators, and Coach Leah Scott and Erica Baedke, among others.
Coach Scott recognized the JV players for their individual achievements and presented the following awards: Beth Davis received the Best Attitude Award; Jasmine Wells, Most Inspirational Player; Kamryn Koetting, Most Versatile Player; Ashtyn Goans and Sarah Bryant, Most Imroved Player; and Morgan Henley, Most Valuable Player. (The MVP award was voted by the JV players.)
Coach Davis recognized the varsity players and issued letters to the following letter winners: Taylor Walters, Sydney Deeken, Kelsey Roush, Madilyn Safley, Paige Halsey and Jessica Gammon.
Regarding awards he was preparing to present, Davis said, "I think awards diminish the team concept. It's a team effort, not individual. So these awards are based on statistics and consistency."
Varsity players who received awards are as follows: Caitlin Meyer, Serving Award; Abby Lueckenotte, Setting Award; Deeken, MVP and Hitting Award; Halsey, Most Improved Player; and Audrey Imhoff, Most Inspirational Player.
Davis recognized varsity players who received post-season awards: Deeken, Tri-County Conference MVP; Halsey, All-Conference first team; and Meyer, All-Conference honorable mention; Meyer, All-District second team; and deeken, All-District first team. Deeken was also named to the Fulton All-Tournament Team and the Warrensburg All-Tournament Team and was
named All-State and All-Region.
In closing, Davis recognized the senior players and thanked them for thier dedication. "I hope you learned some life lessons and skills along the way. We wish you the best."
