California hosts match with Helias

The California High School girls golf teams hosted Helias Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the California Country Club, where the varsity Lady Pintos finished with 198, as did Helias.

California's Ellie Hamilton was the runner-up with 46. Haley Goans followed with 47.

"This was a tough test against Helias," California Coach Lance Conner said. "The way the golf course was set up didn't help. Our girls didn't hit that many poor shots, but they just came at the wrong time. I so wanted Ellie to earn medalist at her last home match as a senior, but runner-up was still a solid ending to the regular season. Deep down, know we can play with most all of the schools in our area, but we haven't put four scores together at the same match. I'm pleased with our ball striking and I hope we can put it all together at districts."

California's JV was led by Preston Peters with 55.

Previously, the Lady Pintos participated in matches at the Sedalia Country Club Sept. 24, where Sacred Heart won the varsity match with 174. California followed with 210.

Becca Hamilton led California with 51, followed by Goans with 52.

"This was a disappointing day for us," Conner said. "Sacred Heart is an exceptional team and this was the last of four times we played them this year. I was hoping to challenge them on their home course as a test for the post-season, but we just didn't play well."

Sophie Brant led California's JV with 53.

The Lady Pintos participated in the Class 1 District 2 Golf Tournament Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Dogwood Hills Golf Resort, Osage Beach, however, results were not available at press time.
