MONITEAU COUNTY LIBRARY @ WOOD PLACE: GROWING TOGETHER

Usually, when a business has growing pains it's a good problem to have, and it's no different at the library.  This growth is the outcome of a consistent effort to reach out to the community at large, and we are proud of our accomplishments.

The library has some pretty remarkable statistics.  Three years ago the library averaged 32 new library card applications per month equaling 384 new card holders for the year.  So far this year we are averaging 43 library card applications per month and are on track to add 516 new card holders.

Offering successful programs has played a major role in the recent spurt of growth. One of our most successful programs is the reading program held each summer for preschool through high school kids. Three years ago we offered 21 programs for children and no Tween/Teen programs. Our attendance was 1,086. This year we offered 55 children's

programs with an attendance of 1,225 and four tween/teen programs with an attendance of 65.

The preschool story-time was so popular we decided to continue offering it year round.  Join us for story time each Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m.

Another area of continued growth is usage of the public computers. Computer usage equals a one hour session.  We currently have 10 public computers available and will add four more early next year to meet public demand.  This year the 10 computers are on track to see 10,000 hours of usage by the public.

It is our priority to bring you a 21st century library.  We are pleased to announce that beginning Nov. 30, the library will be partnering with OverDrive to offer downloadable eBooks, audio books and music.

Any business will tell you that growth equals success.  We at your library and are working diligently to provide you with a successful 21st century library that makes you proud.  Currently, we are not tax-supported by the entire Moniteau County so we are unable to offer everyone a "free"library card.  For those who do not live in a Moniteau County library

taxing sub-district, you may still enjoy the benefits of the library by purchasing a library card for $30 per year per household (less than $3 per month).  Memberships are available for individuals and families that live outside of Moniteau County for the same amount.
