A not so routine traffic stop on Aug. 22 resulted in three misdemeanor vehicle-related charges and a felony drug charge.
According to court documents, an officer called in to check on a driver license status of a person believed to have been observed driving a black Dodge pickup on Oak Street in California. When informed the person had lost his driving privileges, the officer attempted to pull the pickup over on Versailles Avenue with lights and siren. Although the pickup is alleged to have at first appeared to be making an attempt to flee, after a couple of turns it did eventually stop on Rice Boulevard.
The driver, Nathan Shane Belt, 28, California, was charged with misdemeanor driving while revoked or suspended, as well as misdemeanor failure to register the motor vehicle and misdemeanor failure to maintain financial responsibility.
During a search, Belt was allegedly found to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine. As a result, he also has been charged with Class D Felony Possession of Controlled Substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana.
If convicted on the felony charge, Belt could face up to seven years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Bond has been set at $10,000.
