Norris Gerhart, Chamber Board president, called to order the California Area Chamber of Commerce Board meeting held Thursday, Sept. 13.
To begin the meeting a moment of silence in memory of Linda Martin who served as the Chamber Secretary for many years was observed.
After review, Brad Baer made a motion to accept the minutes from the Aug. 9 meeting. Robin Ratcliff seconded and the motion carried.
Melissa Bonecutter, treasurer, reported interest had been received on the CD for the Ham & Turkey Festival monies and the CD had been carried over for another six months. Becky Lawson moved to approve the report, Todd McCluskey seconded and the motion carried.
Executive Secretary Diane Eulinger included a written secretary's report which was approved as presented. There was no old business to discuss.
Becky Lawson presented information on the Missouri Main Street Connection (MMSC). Lawson is the liaison between CPI and the Chamber of Commerce. This program helps communities get new ideas for revitalization. Beth and David Jungmeyer are working closely with MMSC.
Eulinger shared a DVD of a program by Jim Fisher of the Kansas City Star that aired on Nov. 9, 1992, from The News Hour with Jim Lehrer. A portion of this video highlights California and how the towns people pulled together to make California a better place to live. Pat Sweet had contacted the Chamber with the information about purchasing this video.
Dolores Burger reminded the Chamber that Christmas California Style will be early this year, Saturday, Dec. 1. At next month's board meeting chairpersons for the parade, Santa and Mrs. Claus and the home decorating contest will be chosen. After much discussion it was determined not to have the Parade of Homes this year. Discussion also included the home decorating contest and the need for an entry form and potentially waiting until later in December to hold the contest.
President Gerhart asked the board to consider ways to support the Historical Society in its building efforts.Â
Ham & Turkey Festival Chairman Brad Baer stated the festival is moving along and that the weather may cooperate this year. A large turnout is expected.
Baer reported more hand crafted vendors signed up this year and more inquiries have come through the Chamber office regarding the Car Show and the BBQ contest.
Melanie McDonald moved to adjourn, seconded by Ratcliff and the motion carried.
The next scheduled Chamber Board meeting will be at 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11.
