"This was a pretty good finish for us," California Coach Lance Conner said. "We finished first in our class and even beat some larger schools. A score of 400 is a bar that we must strive to get under every time out for 18 hole matches."

The Lady Pintos hosted the California Invitational Sept. 18 at the California Country Club, where the Lady Pintos finished in second place out of nine teams with 386. Sacred Heart won the tourney with 355.

Goans led California, finishing in sixth place overall with 94. Ellie Hamilton followed in eighth place with 95, while Becca Hamilton finished 10th with 98, and Glenn, 11th with 99.

"We beat seven quality teams and fell to a team that is just better than us right now," Conner said. "We had four scores in the 90's, which is great for most every school and especially our size. We took 11 strokes off our score at Marshall, which gives me hope that we are playing our best golf at the right time of the year, heading into the post-season."

The Lady Pintos participated in a match at Oak Hills Golf Course, Jefferson City, Thursday, where California's varsity finished in second place with 204.

Helias won the match with 175, while Eugene finished third with 233.

Ellie Hamilton led California with 47 individually, followed by Glenn and Becca Hamilton with 52 each.

"I'm disappointed with our play at this match," Conner said. "I'm not sure why we continue to make the same mistakes that damage our scoring ability. I thought we were moving past it, but we had a relapse tonight. I'm hoping this was just a tough round after a long week of two 18-hole tournaments. We have one week left before districts and have a lot of work to do. I know the girls are capable of advancing, we just have to put it all together physically and mentally to get it done."

California will host Helias at 4 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the California Country Club.
