Awards Banquet held for Lady Pinto Basketball

The annual California Lady Pintos Awards Banquet was held Monday at the high school commons to reflect on the 2012-13 season and recognize the athletes for their individual achievements and contributions to the season.

An awards ceremony followed dinner, where Head Coach Bobby Sangster spoke about the freshman team's season. Assistant Coach Dennis Davis spoke about the JV team's season. "The highlight for our JV was when we traveled to Mexico," Davis said. "This game was the turning point for us. It just got better after that."

Each of the freshman and JV players were then individually recognized and presented certificates of participation.

"I see a lot of talent in these younger players," Sangster said.

Sangster thanked those whose contributions helped to make yet another successful season, including parents of the players, Lady Pinto fans, his assistant coaches (Davis, Leah Scott and Robb Hartman), manager Morgan Carpenter, the Lady Pinto Hoops Association, the CHS Administration, and the players, among others.

"I also need to thank my wife," Sangster said. "She watches film with me, cheers at games. This year, especially with the addition of our son Clay to our family, has been great. I couldn't do it without Tish."

Sangster reflected on the varsity season. "We finished 21-7. These girls came in with fierce determination, with shoes to fill after we lost seniors and they truly fought and battled. We won the California Tournament for the second time in school history. We just came up a little short in our district and conference. But everybody will be back and they will be hungry. I know we'll get to the top of the mountain next season."

Sangster and Davis presented letters to each of the letter winners. The following awards were presented: Most Outstanding Offensive Performer - to Sydney Deeken; Most Outstanding Defensive Performer - to Caitlin Meyer; Most Improved Player - to Kamryn Koetting; and "Inspiration Award" - to Kelsey Roush.

Deeken and Meyer presented gifts to each of the coaches.

Sangster closed by thanking everyone for a wonderful season.
