Voter turnout low Tuesday

Voter turnout for the municipal election Tuesday, April 2, in Moniteau County was only 14.25 percent. The Use Tax proposals were mixed with the issue passing county-wide by 324 to 258, but failing in the City of California with 158 yes votes to 197 no.

California's Moniteau R-I school board will have one new board member. Of the three candidates for the two board seats, Rhonda (Kirchoff) Meyer will be new to the board, while Kyle Wirts returns for another term. Paul Bailey will leave the board.

Jamestown C-I School Board also had three candidates on the ballot. Voters chose incumbent Gail W. Muri for another term and Scott Snyder to fill the other position.

The California Board of Aldermen had contested races in Ward I and Ward II. Of the three candidates running for a seat being vacated in Ward I, Nathan Lewis was selected to fill the position.

The Ward II race was between the incumbent Cameron Friener and challenger Charlie Roll, a former alderman. Roll won that contest and will return to the council.

In the City of Tipton, incumbent Mayor Jennifer Cary retained the office as did incumbent City Marshall Leo Petree. The two-candidate West Ward Alderman's race was won by incumbent Glen Dale Combs.
