Area Chamber of Commerce to Host Golf Tournament

At the California Area Chamber of Commerce meeting held Thursday, President Norris Gerhart asked for a moment of silence to be observed for Kenny Vaughan, a past Citizen of the Year, and Kelly Messerli who served on the Board of Aldermen.

Diane Eulinger, executive secretary, distributed a written report.  She mentioned she had been contacted by several individuals looking for businesses in the California area who are not chamber members.  She encouraged the callers to let the businesses know she had assisted them.

The board reviewed the list of all businesses that had not joined the Chamber. Some were no longer in business, a few would be contacted again, and the website would be updated to remove those who did not join.

Bids were reviewed for the new Volunteer of the Year plaque and  B-W Graphics was awarded the bid.

Dolores Burger brought to the chambers attention a Food Festival that will be held in California on June 22 in the downtown district.  This is being sponsored by the Missouri River Bluffs Association.  More information will be coming on how local businesses can participate in the event.

Melanie McDonald reported the Easter Egg Hunt was a success even though it was cold and windy.  She thanked the Ratcliff family for helping stuff the eggs and serving as the Easter Bunny.  The chamber thanked Commerce Bank for taking on the task.

Brad Baer said the Ozark Ham and Turkey Festival committee met on April 1.  Christmas ornaments, t-shirts, and brochures are being worked on and decisions will be made in the next couple of meetings.

The Scholarship Committee received the applications and will schedule a meeting to determine the winners.  The new points system will be used as a guideline to determine the criteria for selection.  The Awards Banquet is May 13 and Becky Lawson will present the Chamber awards to the winning students.

Shelly Hampton reported the golf tournament plans are going well.  The tournament will be held Wednesday, June 12, at the California Country Club. The goal is to have 18 teams.  Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12 noon with tee-off at 12 noon.  Anyone wishing to have a team or sponsor a hole can contact the chamber office at 796-3040 or Corry Field at 796-3337 x5710.
